BERNIER (François). Voyages de François Bernier contenant la description des états du grand Mogol, de l'Hindoustan, du royaume de Kachemire, c. Amsterdam, Paul Marret, 1699. 2 volumes in an in-12 volume, first edition of a collection of several texts published separately in Paris by Barbin in 1670 and 1671, forming one of the most complete accounts of Asia in the late 17th century. The author, a doctor of medicine at the Montpellier Academy, was one of the first travelers to describe Kashmir, and was a privileged witness to the activities of the court of the great Mogul during his voyage from 1656 to 1669. Illustrated with 13 plates, including 2 frontispieces, and 3 folding maps. Bound in full marbled basane, spine with 4 raised bands, red morocco title-piece.
