Bound in full contemporary morocco with fanfare, the boards richly decorated with scrolled small dotted irons, richly decorated smooth spine, roulettes framing the inside covers. Woodcut vignette with the author's coat of arms at the end of the preliminary leaves, fine full-page printer's mark on the recto of the penultimate leaf, complete with the last blank leaf Ll4. Freckling, light marginal spotting. Claude Fauchet (1530-1602), first president of the Cour des Monnaies in Paris, was appointed royal historiographer by Henri IV in 1599. Published shortly before his death, this historical collection covers the period from the advent of the Carolingian dynasty with Pepin the Short (751) to the death of Louis the Debonair (840).
