Wizani. Carl August

(1767 Dresden - Breslau 1818). "Areas of Gamig". Six small Saxon landscapes from the area near Gamig and Dohna. 6 sheets aquatint etchings in brown, with engraved title and dedication page, on strong cream wove paper (papier vélin), each ca. 13,4:17 cm. Dresden, 1803. cardboard binding (spine pasted over with modern linen strip, somewhat stained and rubbed, both covers with chip marks) with border and corner fleurons as well as gilt edges on all sides. Literature: Nagler 15. The illustrations are titled as follows: "Gamig gegen Abend.", "Aus dem Garten.", "Der kleine Teich. II.", "Vom alten Gamig.", "Der kleine Teich. I.", "The grotto." Wizani, son of the gardener C. Wizani, was a pupil at the Academy in 1783/84 under Chr.G. Mietzsch (1742-1799) and C. Toscani (1742-1815), then 1785-1789 with G. Canale (1725-1803) and from 1792 with A. Zingg (1734-1816). He engraved after his brother J.F. Wizani (1770-1835), Chr.W.E. Dietrich (1712-1774), J.Chr. Klengel (1751-1824) and J.Ph. Veith (1768-1837) as well as after masterpieces in the Dresden Gallery, and also numerous Saxon landscapes after his own designs. From 1792 to 1803 he worked as a drawing teacher at the Dresden Masonic Institute, then moved to Breslau in 1812, where he became a collection restorer in 1817. The Gamig manor is located in the south of Dresden near Dohna and has had an eventful history since it was first mentioned in a document in 1411. D
