Schattenkonstruktionen

Two classicist shadow constructions for architectural parts Franconian, around 1825. Pen and black ink, gray wash, on wove paper. a.) Outline and cross-section of an Ionic capital inscribed: recto: "Ionisches Capitael", verso: "Vondschär, Würzbg um 1825". 43.2 : 27.8 cm. Brown stains throughout. In addition to the exact transfer of the architectural forms, the draughtsman uses a geometric construction to depict the exact shadow image of the column with capital in oblique light on a rear wall. b.) Corner of a classicist console cornice inscribed: "... 5 o'clock. Am 8-Juli Abe(nds)", verso: "B..mstr... Vondaschär, Miltenberg 1828-78, Würzb'g c. 1824". 20.1 : 26.2 cm. Brown stains throughout. As in the previous drawing, the artist constructs the shadow effect of the consoles on the southern "midday wall" with an elaborate geometric calculation. In Classicism, influenced by French revolutionary architecture, the painterly treatment of the play of light and shadow in architectural designs, as was common in the Baroque period, was abandoned in favor of an atmospheric rendering of light and shadow values. In Germany, this style was popularized by Friedrich Weinbrenner's "Architektonisches Lehrbuch", which was published in Tübingen between 1810-17. D
