As in the previous drawing, the artist constructs the shadow effect of the consoles on the southern "midday wall" with an elaborate geometric calculation. In Classicism, influenced by French revolutionary architecture, the painterly treatment of the play of light and shadow in architectural designs, as was common in the Baroque period, was abandoned in favor of an atmospheric rendering of light and shadow values.
