Piedmont, mid 18th century Pen and grey ink, grey wash, yellow and pink watercolor; on laid paper In form, the longitudinal rectangular altarpiece with a semicircular finial repeats the structure of the niche intended for it. The coving, pilasters and base are restrainedly decorated with portrait medallions and cartouches, shells and putti in the formal language of the Settecento. On the entablature, on the other hand, the arcanthus leaves and the openwork shell ornament are heightened to massive opulence. The finished design lives above all from the balanced relationship between the pen and ink drawing and the carefully executed lavis. 1.000,00 D
