A composite group with drawings by at least two different hands, showing scenes illustrating the events of the Dacian Wars as depicted on Trajan's Column. Pen and ink drawings with washes, on various laid papers. Some sheets with watermarks from the late 17th and 18th century, various sizes between 275 x 285 and 280 x 430 mm (11 x 17 in), all neatly mounted on early 19th century wove paper album leaves. The earlier drawings with losses and extensive repairs, some mounted on backing, heavily browned and soiled throughout. Binding from 18th century Morocco, rebound, front cover with the royal coat of arms of Philip V of Spain embossed in gold (around 1580 to 1780). (More heavily scuffed). The drawings in this album suggest that the artists were less interested in accurately depicting the frieze of the column than in illustrating the historical compositions in a contemporary style, which they depicted in landscape format.
