Ɏ SHOZAN: A FINE IVORY NETSUKE DEPICTING THREE REISHI FUNGI WITH A SNAIL Ɏ SHOZAN: A FINE IVORY NETSUKE DEPICTING THREE REISHI FUNGI WITH A SNAIL By Shozan, signed Shozan 笑山 with kakihan Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Well carved as three reishi heads of varying sizes born on tall stems, the base of which is finely stippled, their heads draped over one another, and a small snail ascending the stem of the largest mushroom. The surface stained. Natural himotoshi formed by the gap between the stems. Signed SHOZAN with a red stained kakihan. HEIGHT 5.6 cm Condition: Very good condition, minor wear, and natural age cracks resulting in the snail’s antennae being detached. Provenance: Lempertz Cologne, 21 March 2021, lot 113. German private collection, acquired from the above.
