Fabian and Sebastian. Traits and descriptions from their lives. Lpz., Fleischer 1824. 1 leaf, 422 pp. Interim paperback. Goed. IX, 395, 39. Schröder 3050. first edition, rare. - The freemason Karl Gottlieb Prätzel (1785-1861) from Upper Lusatia studied theology in Leipzig from 1804, "but due to economic circumstances he had to accept a tutor's position with J.H. Meyer, then tenant of the Eimbeck house. He lived with his family for thirty years as a valued family friend, following them to Oldesloe in Holstein in 1820 and then back to Hamburg in 1825. There he lived for himself from 1837. His existence was secured by friends" (Goed.). "R. Gottschall places him among the poets who, in contrast to Geibel's more serious direction, wanted to let the sociable pleasure and the folk life come to its good rights unconcerned about the artistic refinement, and in the service of this more informal cheerfulness Prätzel has turned gray" (ADB XXVI, 536). - Wide-margined copy. Some foxing.
