Bibliothek von Prof. Juergen Seuss

The library of Juergen Seuss, who is best known as a book designer and producer of the Büchergilde Gutenberg, comprises around 22,000 volumes. The passionate bookmaker not only collected titles on typography, illustration, book history and art, but also collected examples in original book design from different eras. The bookshelves also contain beautifully produced books from well-known publishers such as Georg Müller, Insel and Diederichs. The working library's collection focuses on subjects such as the Enlightenment, German literature from the 18th to 20th centuries, French literature, especially in German translations, French history, as well as Russian literature and illustrated books. Signed books by befriended authors, handwritten annotations in works that he both appreciated and rejected, numerous copies of titles designed by him for the Büchergilde, Faber & Faber, Edition Spangenberg or C.H.Beck Verlag that are still in their packaging, as well as numerous copies of his own BrennGlas Verlag, bear witness to the intensity with which the later professor of book design dedicated his life to books. The library can be visited in Juergen Seuss' long-time home near Frankfurt. More detailed descriptions can be requested.
