Stattler,B.

Theologia Christiana Theoretica. Tractatus I [- VI]. 6 vols. in 5 vols. 1776. First edition of this extensive collection of dogmatic treatises by the German pedagogue, philosopher and theologian Benedikt Stattler (1728-1797). - "[Stattler] proved to be a competent natural scientist who also carried out physical experiments. However, his philological and theological work was hardly received, probably not least because of the difficulty and lengthiness of his Latin style. His most important student was Johann Michael Sailer (1751-1832), whose Glückseligkeitslehre aus Vernunftgründen, mit Rücksicht auf das Christenthum (2 vols., 1787/91) was written in S.'s spirit." (NDB II, 77ff.). - Provenance: handwritten ownership entry of the Capuchin priest Franz Xaver Laur, dat. 1786, attached to each volume extensive notes and comments on Stattler's work in neat Kurrent script. - Binding of vol. 1 scuffed, the others somewhat rubbed, inside somewhat age-spotted, otherwise still in very good condition. With stamps and spine signatures of a dissolved monastery library. - With extensive bound-in annotations in 18th century Kurrent script).
