Augsburg and Dillingen, Bencard, 1723-1730. 20.5 x 16.5 cm. Pigskin bindings of the period over wooden boards with spine labels, rich blindstamping, the supralibros of the abbot on both boards "P. A. M. N" (that is: Placidus Abbas Monasterii Neostadii) and chased brass clasps (somewhat rubbed). A beautiful ensemble of outstanding and well-preserved monastery bindings with the supralibros of Abbot Placidus from the Benedictine monastery of Neustadt am Main. - Heitjan, Bencard 1024 (knows only parts I and II, but not part III, published in 1726; also not in Heitjan, part I here in the editio emendatior of 1730). - The Capuchin Louis Francois d'Argentan (after his birthplace Argentan, 1615-1680) was a French theologian. The Latin version was provided by the Capuchin Isaac from Ochsenfurt. - Front inside covers each with monastery ownership note: "Compar: Placidus Abbas 1736", the titles with monastery ownership entry. The monastery was secularized in 1803, parts of the library were also acquired by the Würzburg University Library. - Partly browned or stained to varying degrees, inner joints with worming.
