(including frontispiece), 184 pp. ill ch. 194, 5 ff. b.c., glazed brown calf, Du Seuil-style decoration of cold-rolled boards, cold-rolled ribbed spine, black title-piece, gilt date at foot, roulette on spines and covers, red edges (19th century binding). First edition in French, published at the same time as the Dutch edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, a title vignette and 91 full-page intaglio figures of religious costumes by Adrien Schoonebeek. Engraved bookplate of the Lespérut Library. Lespérut was either the Empire baron François Victor Jean de Lespérut (1772-1848), secretary-general of the Ministry of War in 1802, governor of the principality of Neuchâtel and then mayor of Eurville, or his son François Auguste de Lespérut (1813-1873), also mayor of Eurville and deputy for Haute-Marne. Slightly rubbed, rare marginal foxing, otherwise a fine copy. (Brunet, Il, col. 338; Colas, no. 2684).
