Inspector's Bài delegated under the Emperor's orders, large and heavy cast lead alloy plate, depicting dragons facing each other on one side, flowers on the other, text in Chinese characters meaning "Representative of Emperor QUIAN LONG" (1736-1796). 90 x 60 mm, gross weight: 330 g Probably cast later. Closely related to Annamite calligraphy (DU and TRAM characters), this piece could be contemporary with the Tay Son revolt and the Queen Mother's exile to China (Lê dynasty), with the Chinese intervention in Tonkin in 1788 & 1789 (see Schroeder, Études annamites, p. 70).
