Brussels 6 July 1623 1 p., folio, 30,5 x 21 cm, brown ink on laid paper, in French, autogr. s. "Isabel", counters. "Verreycken" "[...] nonobstant les placards publiés [...] contre les brigands et vagabonds, déjà trouvé si grand nombre par le plat pays, que l'on n'y peult passer son chemin, nous faisons la p[rése]nte, vous ordant de faire incontinent republier le placard du 2 du mois de septembre de l'an 1614 [...]". Isabella (1566-1633), Infant of Spain, daughter of King Philip II, was coruler of the Spanish Netherlands with her husband Albert of Austria from 1598 to 1621; after his death in 1621, she was sole governor.

[Germany], [Johann Schen], [1610?] Large copperplate engraving (29 cm x 41 cm) printed on heavy laid paper. Probably by Johann Schen, an early 17th-century draftsman of the German school. Of the Habsburg dynasty, son and successor of Charles V, Philip II inherited an immense empire. It was under his reign that Cervantes wrote most of his work. In particular, he began Don Quixote, which he published during the reign of Philip III.
