"Mon cher Étienne, j'en suis au 27 juillet 1830 - memoires - peux-tu venir déjeuner avec moi aujourd'hui [...] avec [Louis] Laussedat". The three men were part of a community of French opponents of Napoleon III's regime who had taken refuge in Belgium. It was in Brussels that Dumas began writing his Mémoires.
