After their victory over Italy at the European Nations Championship in July 2000, the members of the French soccer team were received by President Chirac at the Élysée Palace. Alongside coach Roger LEMERRE and captain Didier DESCHAMP, Zinédine ZIDANE, Thierry HENRY, Laurent BLANC and Bixente LIZARAZU were among the guests invited to celebrate the "historic double" of the Tricolores, winners of the World Cup and then the Euro within two years of each other.
