Émile LOUBET Set of 2 menus relating to the visit of the President of the Republic, Émile LOUBET, to NICE and TOULON in April 1901. - Menu for the banquet offered to the President on April 8, 1901 in Nice [on the occasion of the Fête internationale de la gymnastique. Created after the 1870 war to showcase the physical strength of French youth, this event attracted several thousand gymnasts], 4 pp. illustrated, program and menu opposite. - Menu for the meal offered by the President on April 10, 1901 at the Arsenal de Toulon on the occasion of the VISIT OF AN ITALIAN ESCASRE commanded by the Duke of Genoa, Commander-in-Chief of the Italian Navy, 4 pp. under cover. bound by 2 tricolor cords in the colors of France and Italy, inside: monogram of Émilie Loubet highlighted in gold and framed by the Italian and French flags in color and 2 engraved illustrations, small marginal tear not affecting the text. During his presidency, Loubet helped improve tense relations with Italy, with whom he signed an agreement in 1900 recognizing Italian interests in Libya in exchange for recognition of the French protectorate over Morocco. In 1901, he was awarded Italy's highest decoration, the Order of the Annunciation.
