PERROT (J. F. A.). Essay on mummies. Nîmes, imprimerie veuve Guibert, 1844. In-8, 132 pp, 2 plates (of 3), 1 folding, paperback, printed cover. First edition of this curious work devoted to the mummy of In-Nimen-Na-Es-Nébou, preserved in a sarcophagus acquired by the author in the 19th century on the advice of Champollion himself, and whose "late Egyptian" style suggests that this woman was between 2,600 and 2,800 years old. Perrot, "without any notion of the study of Egyptian monuments, much less that of hieroglyphics" (p. 7), sets out to explain the paintings and inscriptions on the sarcophagus of a mummy belonging to his personal museum, of which he gives a brief general description, specifying at the end that his collection is for sale ("write franco").
