Marcus ADAMS (1875-1959) - Strong lot of 46 original unsigned silver prints, featuring Prince Charles and Princess Anne, alone or together, sometimes with Queen Elizabeth II, between 1951 and 1954. - H. 20.5 x W. 15.5 cm to H. 24.5 x W. 19 cm (small accidents) - - History - Marcus Algernon Adams was a photographer renowned among high society, particularly for his portraits of children. Born in Southampton, Hampshire, on May 15, 1875, he was the son of photographer Walton Adams. He joined the Royal Photographic Society in 1914 and became a Fellow in 1915. He began his career as an architectural photographer for the British Archaeological Association, illustrating books by the antiquarian C.E. Keyser. He became famous for his portraits of children, and was invited to photograph the Duchess of York and her daughter Elizabeth as early as 1927. His portraits of Princess Elizabeth at the age of 8 were used in 1935 for the Canadian $20 banknote. He continued to photograph the Royal Family until 1956.
