Description

Exceptional gilt bronze and porcelain "organ" clock. (Vincennes or Meissen?). The model features, on its Rocaille base, an orchestra of monkeys composed of 7 musicians and a conductor. It is enriched with a multitude of polychrome porcelain flowers and is directly inspired by the famous Louis XV period model referenced on page 146 of Pierre Kjellberg's encyclopedia of French clocks from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. The original model's bronzes are attributed to Duplessis, the porcelain is from Vincennes and the dial is signed by Jean Moisy. From the former Léopold Double collection, sold in 1881, it was acquired by the Musée du Petit Palais in Paris in 1996 (documentation Maître Binoche Paris). This is an exceptional late 19th-early 1900 French edition. Extremely rare on the market. Movement stamped on the reverse with Paris and 3 stars. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and garlands of flowers. Beautiful chased hands in the XVIIIth century style. Height: 95 cm.
