Description

Jean PROUVE (1901 - 1984) Armchair model 352 called "Direction" in the artist's reference book, created in 1951, with folded tubular steel frame and red corsair lacquer. Seat and backrest upholstered in beige skai and armrests refinished by Vitra in oak (scratches and small dents to the lacquer). Height 77 cm - Length 63 cm - Depth 53 cm Provenance: Chambre Syndicale de la Sidérurgie Française, Paris, 1953. Private collection, Paris. History: this armchair was commissioned from Jean Prouvé around 1953 for the Chambre Syndicale de la Sidérurgie Française, 5bis avenue de Madrid, Paris. Jean Prouvé, along with other decorative artists such as André Arbus and Raymond Subes, had been commissioned to create several pieces by the new president of the Chambre, Monsieur Pierre Ricard, when he purchased and refurbished the building in 1953. This furniture was acquired by the current owner's father when the ensemble was dispersed in 1988.
