Jean PROUVE (1901 - 1984) Three chairs, model 306 known as "Métropole" from the artist's reference list, created circa 1950, with folded tubular steel structure and corsair-red lacquer. Seat and back upholstered in beige skai (scratches and scuffs to the lacquer, small scratches to the skai). Height 79 cm - Length 41.5 cm - Depth 48 cm € 30,000/40,000 Provenance: Chambre Syndicale de la Sidérurgie Française, Paris, 1953. Private collection, Paris. History: These chairs were commissioned from Jean Prouvé around 1953 for the Chambre Syndicale de la Sidérurgie Française, 5 bis avenue de Madrid, Paris. Jean Prouvé, along with other decorative artists such as André Arbus and Raymond Subes, had been commissioned several pieces by the new president of the Chambre, Monsieur Pierre Ricard, when the building was purchased and refurbished in 1953. This furniture was acquired by the current owner's father when the ensemble was dispersed in 1988.
