Description
Large, rectangular, flat-boxed desk in flamed mahogany veneer and a cardboard drawer, opening with four drawers simulating five, the top encircled by a bronze ingot mould, the rounded corners adorned with scrapers, the tapered legs with dark brass fluting. The cartonnier, fitted with four cartons trimmed in gilded red leather, is surmounted by a gray Sainte Anne marble with a brass openwork gallery. Stamped by Gaspard SCHNEIDER, received Master in 1786, and stamp of the Jurande des Menuisiers Ebénistes, JME (on the edge of the right-hand drawer). Green leather top (worn). Late Louis XVI period.
