Description
CARTEL in tortoiseshell veneered wood, with chased ormolu ornamentation featuring two female allegories around a globe bearing an enamelled cartouche "Panier A Paris", probably for Josué Panier. The veneer is embellished with bronze mouldings, openwork galleries, fire pots, acanthus leaves and a mascaron at the top. The sides and front are openworked with a glass pane opening onto a chased scroll and bird dial with enameled Roman numerals. Early 18th century. Wire movement signed Panier in Paris. Height: 53.5 cm; Width: 31.5 cm; Depth: 14 cm (Fairly good overall condition, a few accidents and minor restorations)
