Description

REIGN OF S.M. EMPEROR MINH MANG (1820-1841). Rectangular box in enamel on copper phap Lam. The lid decorated with pampers and blossoming flowers on a turquoise background, the sides on a midnight-blue background adorned with gilded latticework punctuated with reserves. The two main ones feature on one, a deer under a pine tree accompanied by a calligraphic poem that translates as "Deep in the forest, I see deer. I don't hear the bell", while the second features a bird on the branch of a blossoming apricot tree. The side reserves feature blossoming flowers and bamboo branches, referring to the three friends of winter: pine, Japanese apricot and bamboo. The blue-enameled interior features an intermediate compartment decorated with vine shoots. Vietnam, Hué workshops, 19th century. Height: 6 cm. Length: 14.5 cm. Width: 7 cm.
