Circa 1930-1937. Very important lot of photographs, documents and various papers tracing the life in Indochina and the career of Major René Sohier, from an important military family, who joined the Legion with the 12th Battalion of Foot Chasseurs after training at the Saint-Maixent Military School, having spent most of his career in Indochina and North Africa, Officer of the Legion of Honor in 1950. The lot includes: Numerous photographs, mostly taken in Tonkin, Hongay, Quang Nam, Nam Dinh... Important lot of photographs including views of Haïphong, Baie d'Along and Bac Noi in the vicinity of the domain of the same name. Various family photos, some in albums. A set of large-format photographs retracing Commandant Sohier's military career in Indochina and Morocco. A photo album containing photos of the funeral of Monsieur Barbiaux, a planter on the Bac Noi estate, with several views of Annamite rituals. Various military documents (including a colonial medal diploma dated June 28, 1930, a 1939 active army officer's card, etc.), handwritten letters, newspaper clippings, invoices, stamped envelopes, etc. A batch of black-and-white postcards, many dating back to the 1950s.
