Curious verse piece composed in honor of wine and the bottle. It is the work of Sieur Carneau, who signed the dedication addressed to Messieurs les poètes: undoubtedly Étienne Carneau, lawyer, poet and monk, born in Chartres in 1610 and died in Paris in 1671. The work is presented as the "prosopopoeia of a bottle, the receptacle of poetic wine" (Isabelle Luciani): "It is a bottle that speaks, & that reasons [...]. And although it speaks only in gaseous form, it does not fail to express quite skilfully its origin, & the effects of the most worthy liquor that can earn it esteem [...] it carries in its flanks this gentle God of joy, & of freedom. [...] It has only innocent charms for honest people who use it in the same way, & is not complicit in the excez that brutal people commit when they abuse its gifts, which we count among the main lenitives of human misery.
