Diptych sundial signed 'Conrad Karner' on face 2a with its mark of a horn and compass stamped twice on the compass base, circa 1624. Ivory, with attachments, feet and brass moving part H. 9.5 cm - W. 6.5 cm - D. 1.5 cm AT Weight : 126,60 g CITES certificate n° FR2407503768-K Side 1a (wear and cracks) Compass rose with thirty-two directions, sixteen of which are initialed; numbered points; inspection hole for compass in tablet 2b, all encircled by symmetrical foliage; index. Side 1b Table of latitudes for twenty-four European cities; scale of latitudes 42-51 by 3° to attach the style-axis in thread; decoration of two palaces. Side 2a (slight cracks) Hour scales for 42°, 45°, 48° and 51°; four-way compass with Karner mark; Italian and Babylonian hour scales; signature. Side 2b Scales in four concentric circles for the Julian epact starting at 1624, the Gregorian epact, the age of the moon; hours (1-12 x 2); missing movable piece in center; all encircled by symmetrical foliage.
