SOUTH ITALY, Trapani school, 18th century Ecce Homo Statuette in polychromed and gilded alabaster H. 18 cm AL-EJ Accents and restorations Related literature: -Marjan Debaene (ed.), Alabaster sculpture in Europe 1300-1650, Belgium, Harvey Miller Publishers, 2022, cat. 111 This statuette was made in the Trapani region, rich in alabaster quarries and a veritable center for the production of private devotional objects. It depicts an Ecce Homo according to the Passion episode, in which Christ is presented to Pontius Pilate. The base of our statuette, with its characteristic 18th-century scrolls and foliage, also features the Arma Christi motifs that traditionally accompany representations of this Christ-like iconography.
