Modern Literature and French Bibliophilia Donnay et al, Maurice Comprehensive collection of Maurice Donnay's version of Lysistrata, including 25 colorful original costume designs. Bound in red half morocco chemise with gilt-stamped title and marbled boards, in matching slipcase. From the collection of the author and theater man Jacques Crépineau (1932-2017), with his bookplate. - Lysistrata, the first play by Maurice Donnay based on Aristophanes, was successfully premiered on December 22, 1892 at the Grand-Théâtre in Paris with the actress Réjane in the title role. It was revived in 1896 at the Théâtre du Vaudeville and subsequently in various venues. The collection contains 20 colorful costume designs by Charles Bétout (1869-1945) in gouache and watercolors over graphite on cardboard (sheet dimensions approx. 31 x 24 cm each), all with studio stamps and with various hs. Annotations in the margins. Also 5 unsigned costume designs in various techniques on different papers (each approx. 30 x 20 cm). Also included: M. Donnay. Lysistrata. La Vrille. Eux.
