Modern Literature and Art Bauhaus Jahn, Martin Topping-out ceremony of the house of Adolf Sommerfeld. Berlin 18.12.1920. Program sheet in original lithograph. Six-page leaflet in leporello fold. 78.3 x 25.9 cm. Fleischmann 46f. - Herzogenrath, Bauhaus Utopias p. 256 - Not in Brüning. - Extremely rare program of events, printed in a very small edition. - The Dahlem villa of the Berlin timber wholesaler Adolf Sommerfeld was the first building commission of the Gropius office after the war and at the same time the first major project of the Bauhaus. The design by Gropius and Adolf Meyer, with its expressionist design language, made it possible to involve the various departments of the Bauhaus in the project. For example, expressionist carvings for wall cladding and staircases were created by Joost Schmidt, among others, the stained glass windows by Josef Albers and the furniture was made by Marcel Breuer. This was the first time that Gropius' idea of uniting the arts in building was realized in an exemplary manner. (see Stefan Kreis, in: Bauhaus Utopien, ed. by Wulf herzogenrath, Stuttgart 1988, p. 257.) - The topping-out ceremony itself was extensively staged. Sommerfeld had the Bauhaus students dressed in guild-like costumes, in which they, together with the other craftsmen, performed the symbolically charged program compiled and printed here by Adolf Meyer, in which even the audience was involved. In the catalog "Bauhaus Utopias", Stefan Kraus writes about the depiction on the program sheet: "The lithographed view ... increases its expressiveness. Whereas in Feininger's woodcut for the Bauhaus manifesto it was stars whose rays framed the cathedral, now the building itself seems to radiate, to sparkle like a polished gemstone in numerous facets. ...". (S. 257). - Delicately evenly browned due to paper, only minimal and very inconspicuous creases in places. Overall extremely well-preserved. Bauhaus - Original lithographed program leaflet. In zigzag fold. - Exceptionally rare program leaflet printed in very small edition. - The Dahlem villa of the Berlin timber wholesaler Adolf Sommerfeld was the first building commission of the Gropius bureau after the war and at the same time the first major project of the Bauhaus.
