Delaby/Original sheet no. 1 from the story "Le dernier combat de Godefroid" ("Godefroid's Last Stand"), illustrating the moment when Godefroid learns that the Emir of Damascus is massacring Christian pilgrims. Superb quality of execution for this early work, which already illustrates the master's technical mastery. India ink and graphite. Signed and dedicated, dated 1988 and 1992. VERY GOOD CONDITION. Story published in 1988 in Tintin + In 2022 in the album "Les premiers récits". Philippe Delaby (1961-2014) is a Belgian cartoonist who launched his career in 1987 with the publication of his first plates in the "Journal Tintin". A first album in the heroic fantasy genre was published in 1993. He took off with the success of the "Polar Star" saga (3T) in 1994, establishing his style and confirming his maturity. But it was in 1998 that the big public success came with the creation of "Murena". This success continues with Volume 5 of "Complainte des Landes perdues". In terms of influences, Delaby has fond memories of Jacques Martin's La Griffe noire and L'Île maudite. He admires the works of Ingres, Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, Jean-Léon Gérome and Michelangelo, especially La Pietà. Delaby repeatedly produced a large number of high-quality erotic illustrations in direct color and B&W.
