The third animated feature inspired by the Tintin comic book series, its script is not based on an existing Tintin adventure, but on an original story written by Greg, Hergé's collaborator at the Studios. The film is produced by Belvision Studios under the supervision of Bob De Moor. On its release in December 1972, the film was a hit with the public, ranking third at the Belgian box office after The Godfather and Clockwork Orange. The set was appraised by Louis-Michel Carpentier, cartoonist and former head of the animation department at Belvision Studios.
