India ink signed. TBE. 28 X 23 cm JP Walravens (1942), alias Picha, made his first animated film in 1975, "Tarzoon, The Shame of the Jungle", a worldwide success. He followed this up with the wacky prehistoric fable Le Chaînon Manquant (1979), shortlisted for the Cannes Film Festival and the Philip Morris Foundation Film Prize, and Le Big Bang (1984-1986), which further confirmed the irreverent side of his pen. In these satirical works, Picha creates a delirious parallel world in which sex is omnipresent, but does not conceal an acerbic social critique. After the lacklustre success of the film Le Big Bang, Picha left the big screen to devote himself to writing for television. This led to a number of commercials, as well as the animated series Zoo Olympics (1990-1991) and Zoo Cup (1992-1993), and Les Jules... Chienne de vie (1995). In 2007, he made his comeback to the world of film with Snow White: The Sequel, a particularly daring sequel to the Disney fairy tale, with Cécile de France and Jean-Paul Rouve providing the main voices.
