Null BARYE - "Le Duc d'Orléans", bronze subject with brown patina signed "Barye"…
Description

BARYE - "Le Duc d'Orléans", bronze subject with brown patina signed "Barye" and noted "Dépositaire Delesalle, 41 boulevard du Temple" "Delesalle" on the base. Slight damage to the sword and base. Dimensions : 37 x 29 x 11 cm Edouard Henri Delesalle (1823 - 1851) became one of Barye's depositary founders from 1862 to 1874. As such, he held the rights to several of Barye's bronzes, including the Duc d'Orléans. The subject presented today was cast at the Société des bronzes de Paris foundry at 41 boulevard du Temple. This theme may seem a little incongruous in Barye's career, but it can be explained by the fact that Duke Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans, Louis Philippe's eldest son, was a major patron of the arts and helped the artist establish himself as a Romantic sculptor. With this sculpture, Barye pays posthumous homage to his patron.
