Superb at Fleur de coin. In 1908, Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Prince of Bulgaria since 1887, used the existing tensions between the Great Powers to declare Bulgaria's independence and the creation of the Kingdom of Bulgaria in Veliko Tarnovo, himself assuming the title of Tsar under the name of Ferdinand I. The date of independence was set at September 22, 1908 in the Julian calendar (October 5, 1908 in the Orthodox calendar).
