Prof. Gregor von Bochmann, Estonian peasants busy hustle and bustle with numerous animals in front of a barn in a flat landscape, ink pen, late 19th century, signed lower left "G. v. Bochmann", lightly browned and stained, framed under mount and behind glass, mount size approx. 22,5 x 42,5 cm. Artist info: actually Alexander Heinrich Gregor Bochmann, called Gregor Bochmann the Elder, German. Painter (1850 Gut Nehat/Estonia to 1930 Ratingen-Hösel near Düsseldorf), pupil of Theodor Albert Sprengel in Reval [Tallinn], studied 1868-71 with the Schiller scholarship of the city of Reval at the Düsseldorf Academy, from 1869 with Oswald Achenbach, from 1871 freelance in Düsseldorf, from 1895 professor title, undertook study trips to Estonia and the Netherlands, attended the art exhibitions in Düsseldorf, Munich, Vienna, Dresden, Berlin and the World Exhibition in Paris, from 1893 member of the Berlin Academy, received various honors such as Great Gold Medals in Berlin and Munich as well as the Austrian State Medal Salzburg, 1899 elevation to the peerage, 1873-1930 member of the artists' association "Malkasten", member of the Free Association of Düsseldorf Artists (Secession) as well as member and for a time board member of the German Artists' Association, active in Düsseldorf, Source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, AKL, Dressler, Bruckmann "Lexikon der Düsseldorfer Malerschule", Boetticher, Saur, Müller-Singer and Wikipedia.
