Nicolas Guy Antoine BRENET (1770-1846). - Napoleon Emperor. Erected on the Place Vendôme column in August 1810, lowered in April 1814". - Napoleon replaced on the Vendôme column in July 1833 during the reign of Louis Philippe I. Two original pewter prints, presented under brass-rimmed glass, in a mahogany veneered frame. Diameter: 5.5 cm Sealed with wax (remains), with a penciled inscription "BRENET Graveur de médaille Cour de la Ste Chapelle", a label numbered "1646" and a pencil inscription "2358". A.B.E. circa 1835. Biography: BRENET (Nicolas-Guy-Antoine), Medal engraver, Cour de la Sainte-Chapelle, 13. Born in Paris. Student of Girod, sculptor, and Gatteaux, medal engraver. His medals have appeared at various exhibitions since 1806. He produced l'histoire métallique du règne de Napoléon, 15 medals exhibited at the 1833 Salon. At the 1835 Salon, he exhibited two medals representing the two statues of Napoleon on the Place Vendôme column (under number 2376, probably the two medals shown here) and a draft medal representing the oath of the cities of France to Louis-Philippe I.
