Set framed under glass: Willow leaf planted on the tomb - Fragment of the willow tree struck by lightning on the day of the Emperor's death - Cement from the Emperor's vault - piece of willow that shaded the tomb - fragment of the Emperor's coffin. Reliquary of souvenirs brought back by the Prince de Joinville expedition's chief of staff, Captain de vaisseau. Signed Hernoux. "Fait à Mantes, le 12 juillet 1842". Nicely presented, each souvenir annotated. 34 x 29 cm Coaster. Gilded frame (damaged). Biography : Claude Charles Etienne Hernoux (1797-1861). Naval officer, Captain, aide-de-camp to Prince de Joinville. He was chief of staff during the Belle-Poule expedition, and in practice commanded the ship. Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1847.
