Large Attic oinochoe. Late Attic Ia, 760 - 750 BC. H with handle 49,5cm, ø 25,2cm. Beige clay with black painting. Ovoid body with long, slightly cantilevered neck. Decorated in black with horizontal friezes with geometric ornaments. Fine painting and excellent condition! Two fragments of the muzzle broken and reattached, with small missing part, small chips, painting rubbed on the top of the handle and on one part of the body. As private property of Thrasyboulos Georgiades since at least 1947 in Germany, after his death continues as family property in Germany. After training as a pianist and earning a degree in civil engineering, Thrasyboulos Georgiades (b. 1907 in Athens, + 1977 in Munich) studied musicology and composition with Carl Orff from 1930 and 1935. After his marriage to the Munich harpsichordist Anna Barbara Speckner, he was a professor at the Odeon in Athens, later at the University of Heidelberg, and finally at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. One of the most important musicologists and theorists in 20th century Germany, he was a member of both the Bavarian and Heidelberg Academies of Sciences and Humanities. In 1974 he was awarded the Pour le Mérite.
