¤ CARTIER PARIS, 1940's - "Epingle de nourrice" brooch in 750 thousandths yellow gold and 950 thousandths platinum, set with a cluster of gold balls accented with sugar loaf lapis lazuli in square closed settings. Signed "Cartier Paris" and numbered "06577". Maker's mark GROSS & Cie. Length: 7.6cm. Gross weight: 25.1 g. This model was created in 1937 by designer Jeanne TOUSSAINT, known as "La Panthère" (1887-1976). A similar brooch is reproduced in Mélissa GABARDI's book Les Bijoux de l'Art Déco aux Années 1940, Les Editions de l'Amateur, 1986, P. 218. A half-set of the same model is also reproduced in the chapter devoted to Jeanne Toussaint, in Juliet WEIR-DE LA ROCHEFOUCAULD, Les plus beaux bijoux de femmes joaillières, La Bibliothèque des arts, 2017, P. 74-75.
