~ SAINT FRANCOIS XAVIER Carved wood statue painted in polychrome, with carved ivory head, hands, feet and emblematic attributes (crucifix and skull). Painted eyes, tonsure and beard. He stands on a plinth carved with acanthus leaves. Portuguese India, probably 17th century. Height: 43 cm - Width: 15.5 cm (Damage and missing parts) Handwritten label below: "[...] This statuette was bought in Portugal in 1910 during the revolution that overthrew the House of Bragance by Ludovic Naudeau, a journalist and war correspondent [...]".
