VINCENNES Round butter dish tray of the second size in soft porcelain, decorated in gold with bouquets of flowers in three reserves surrounded by gold flowers and palms on a lapis blue ground, gold serrated border. Marked: LL interlaced, no date letter. 18th century, circa 1753. D. 20.3 cm. Chips. Provenance Former Jean de Cayeux collection, sale Paris, Hôtel Drouot, Million, December 9, 2005, lot 180. On December 28, 1752, Madame de Pompadour purchased a 1st size butter dish and a 1st size lapis and gold butter dish tray from the Manufacture de Vincennes for 144 livres (Arch. Sèvres, Vy 14, f° 5). On December 22, 1753, the Duc de Duras also bought two 1st size butter dishes and two lapis and gold trays for 144 livres each (Arch. Sèvres, Vy1, f° 23). In December 1753, the merchant-mercier Lazare Duvaux bought two 2nd size butter dishes and two lapis and gold trays for 120 livres each (Arch. Sèvres, Vy1, f°29). Lazare Duvaux and the merchant Bailly buy again each two butter dishes and trays 2nd size in June 1754 at the price of 120 livres.
