Paul JOUVE (Bourron Marlotte 1878 - Paris 1973)

Buffalo in front of the pools at Angkor Temple, 1923 Oil on panel 32.5 x 54.5 on view Signed lower right Jouve, and dated 23 Jouve, winner of a grant from the Indochina government in 1921, made a long eleven-month trip to the Far East the following year. He left France in early September 1922, returning in July 1923. This trip, which left a lasting impression on his work, took him to Ceylon, Annam, the former French Indochina and Angkor. Jouve arrived in Angkor in October 1922, where he stayed for 3 months, bringing back this painting of a child and a buffalo in front of the basins of the Angkor temple. Paul Jouve Collection, remained in the family Exhibition: Galerie Haussmann-Danthon.
