Jacques MAJORELLE (Nancy 1886 - 1962)

The Kasbahs of the Atlas. Dessins et peintures rehaussées de métaux edités sous la direction de Lucien Vogel, chez Jules Meynial, 30, boulevard Haussmann à Paris. Completed on October 15, 1930, 520 copies including twenty hors commerce numbered I to XX. Portfolio comprising 7 four-color plates enhanced with gold and silver on card, and the introductory text on "Auvergne à la main" paper, bound in "Flammannam" cloth embroidered by Messrs. Paul Rodier & Cie. A map on silver and gold leaf, reproduced as a double-page spread at the beginning and end of the introduction, traces the various routes taken by the artist during his forays across Morocco, from 1919 to 1930. The reproduction of Jacques Majorelle's photograph of southern Morocco was executed in mechanical intaglio by Desfossés Néo gravure. Each plate offers a luxurious reproduction of the artist's favorite views, selected by him: sites, people or villages in the Atlas Mountains. Our work is number 206 Plates: Height 28, Width 37 cm.
