Large bronze ritual vase, hu, China, Western Han dynasty (206 BC - 8 AD) Wide neck and rounded body, three horizontal bands in slight relief at the shoulder, middle and bottom of the body, two handles formed by rings suspended from taotie masks, beautiful green patina with red concretions. Impact to the body. H. 44.5 cm Provenance : Galerie Michael Goedhuis, acquired May 10, 1993. A comparable example sold at Christie's, Paris, June 22, 2016, lot 369.
