Jean-Leon GEROME (1824-1904) Portrait of the horse Gamin Oil on canvas Signed, dated and dedicated ''A mon ami Ralli JL Germe 1846'' (bottom right), titled Gamin cheval de Vendee' (top) , stamped by supplier Deforge Carpentier' (reverse) 42 x 56.5 cm Painted in 1846, probably enlarged by the artist before 1870 PROVENANCE Probably Theodore Ralli, Paris (gift of the artist, circa 1870). Rene Germain Gibelin, Chârost, France (in the 1960s). Then by descent to the present owner. A certificate of authenticity by Emily M. Weeks, Ph.Diam. : will be given to the purchaser. This work will be included in the revision of the Catalogue Raisonne of the work of Jean-Leon Germe by Gerald Ackerman, currently in preparation by Emily M. Weeks, Ph.D.
