*Christian Wilhelm Ersnt DIETRICH (Weimar, 1712 - Dresden, 1774) Couple making wreaths; The bird-catcher; Love telling fortune Three canvases Couple dimensions: 135 x 73 cm Birdcage dimensions: 135 x 73 cm Size of Love: 143 x 73 cm provenance: sale from the Goldschmidt - Prizbam collection in Brussels, sale in Amsterdam, Frederik Muller & Cie, June 17, 1924, no. 9 (as Ecole française du XVIIIe siècle) This collection, built up in Prague by Friedrich Lippmann (1838-1903), includes masterpieces by masterpieces by Baldung-Grien, now in the Germanisches-nationalmuseum in Nuremberg and the Musée du Louvre. Another Dietrich version of the central panel composition is known, in small wood format (41×32.4 cm), in the Staatliches Museum in Schwerin. We would like to thank Dr. Petra Schniewind, author of the Dietrich monograph, for confirming the the autograph nature of these three panels, by e-mail and digital photograph, on June 24 2023.
