*François BOUCHER (Paris 1703 1770) Venus and Lovers in the Clouds Black stone, shading and white chalk highlights on formerly blue paper 28 x 38 cm, oval form Annotated lower center "Boucher". Small stains We would like to thank Mr. Alastair Laing for his kind opinion based on a photograph. According to him, the drawing appears to be by François Boucher. It could be the drawing "Le Lever de l'Aurore", sold in the sale of Viscount C(lair or Clere), Me Pillet, Paris, April 25-26, 1872 (Soullié et Masson no. 452). Another drawing on the same theme was in the Marigny collection. We would like to thank Mme Françoise Joulie for kindly confirming the authenticity of this drawing after a visual examination.
