Roger Godchaux (1878-1958) Elephant running with coiled trunk Bronze with shaded brown patina Signed "Roger Godchaux" on the terrace Bears the founder's mark "Susse Frs Edts Paris" and the circular insert and the words "cire perdue" ("lost wax"). Stamped "BRONZE". E02, p. 56. Roger Godchaux was a pupil of Jules Adler and then Jean-Léon Gérôme. In 1925, the Jury of the Exposition des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes awarded him the silver medal. When he died in 1958 at the age of 80, he had spent more than fifty years of his life depicting animals in all the attitudes observed in everyday life.
